Inspiration : West Oakland Mural

I have a thing for street art. When it’s done right… it’s beautiful. It transforms tattered buildings, and otherwise ignored structures, into public displays of creativity… impromptu community art, if you will. I’m always picking up something from PS Print, on Mandela Parkway. A few blocks away (at 24th + Campell), I noticed a lovely mural. After the 3rd or 4th time driving by, I had to stop and take a few photos.

The artist is Beth Emmerich, who also happens to be a tattooist. Thanks to a quick google search, I found a related article here.

I REALLY love El Dia de los Muertos-inspired art, particularly featuring women (almost bearing a 1940’s-50’s “pin-up” influence). I would love to see how I can incorporate this into my work.
